Chok Dee Thai Restaurant
747 Christchurch Rd, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH7 6AN
Tel: 01202 462246

Formerly known as KK Thai and thankfully under new management, Chok Dee is the latest Asian addition to Christchurch Road. Located close to Corpus Christi School, the restaurant has undergone a transformation and now features a chiq Thai-themed wooden interior. Some may describe the decor as sparce but personally I prefer the crisp, clean minimalistic look which focuses around a stunning wine glass chandelier.

On each visit we receive a warm welcome and instantly feel at ease; which is a bonus when accompanied by a 16 month old! for around £6.00 the lunchtime menu is fantastic value for money, offering a selection of starters and mains which can be accompanied by a choice of rice or egg noddles (a refreshing change to be offered beef mains and noddles as side at lunchtime!). The food is utterly delicious, flavoursome and well presented - personal favourites are the Satay Chicken, Beef Panang and the Chicken Massaman Curry.

This has quickly become our favourite Thai in the area; dishes are packed full of flavour, portion sizes are generous and the service is attentive. I've noticed Chok Dee getting busier on each visit so the word is out!

Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant

Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant42 Poole Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth, BH4 9DWwww.tajmahalwestbourne.com
Tel: 01202 761108

In my opinion Taj Mahal serves the best indian cuisine in Bournemouth. We first visited this restaurant in a group of 15 and everyone agreed the food was fantastic. The naan breads and vegetable sides are flavoursome, the curries are just divine.

I ordered the mixed kebab to start; the onion bhaji was fabulous, grease-free and accompanied by the most succulent Chicken Tikka and Shish that I've ever tasted. We shared a Lamb Bhuna, Chicken Rogan Josh and Chicken Tikka Massala with friends, accompanied by Keema Rice, Garlic Naan, Bombay Potato and Sag Aloo - all were excellent.

To top off a great night, we were all offered a complimentary round of drinks after dinner, which as you can imagine went down very well.

Barolo Italian Restaurant, Bournemouth

Barolo Italian Restaurant
586-588 Wimborne Road, Winton, Bournemouth, BH9 2ERhttp://www.barolorestaurant.co.uk/
Tel: 01202 547213
Traditional Italian food served with a smile - decor is a little dated but the menu offers a fair selection of the usual pizza, pasta, meat and seafood options. The Pollo Dolcelatte is really tasty, I just love that creamy sauce; my other half loves the Pizza Inglese which has 2 rashers of bacon and a fried egg on top!

Barolo is great for the less formal gathering, not the ideal location for a romantic evening - I would prefer Peppino's. Barolo is located on Winton High Street, other restaurants / bars in the group include Salsa, Havana and Sebis.

Salsa Tapas Bar & Restaurant, Bournemouth

Salsa Tapas Bar and Restaurant
82 Charminster Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8US

Salsa offers a great selection of tasty Spanish treats, served in a friendly, warm atmosphere. The waiters are bubbly, energetic and keen to ensure glasses stay topped up with Sangria! the perfect way to kick-start an evening out with friends and conveniently located across the road from Havana Wine Bar.

We love the Salsa Pick n Mix Platter which includes bbq ribs, chimichanga's, jalapeno poppers, filo wrapped prawns and chicken wings. The nachos, potato skins are also fab plus t
here's always a display of tempting desserts near the bar, highly recommend the white profiteroles.

Dragon Inn Chinese Restaurant, Bournemouth

Dragon Inn Chinese Restaurant
685 Wimborne Road, Bournemouth, BH9 2AT

We have only ever eaten takeaway from Dragon Inn so I can't comment on the decor but I still offer my humble opinion of the food. This is certainly not the best Chinese around but you do get loads for your money. N
ormally we receive a voucher for free 1/4 crispy aromatic duck when spending over £25. Stay away from the Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls if you're like me and don't like too much dough...

Chef da China, Ferndown

Chef da China
Chinese Restaurant

Ferndown Forest Golf Club, Forest Links Road, Ferndown, BH22 9QE
http://www.chefdachina.co.uk

This classy establishment is hidden behind the Ferndown Bypass, nestled alongside the Ferndown Forest Golf Club. Chef da China is spacious inside and well managed, owners and staff are efficient and very friendly. The location and slightly higher prices tend to attract an older clientelle.

I can recommend the Business Lunch although we were dissappointed with the Sunday Lunch Buffet - largely due to the limited choice of main courses, absence of crispy aromatic duck and the owner serving you the starters.

Lee's Dynasty, Bournemouth

Lee's Dynasty
Chinese, Thai and Malaysian Cuisine
486 Wimborne Road, Bournemouth BH9 2EY
http://www.lees-dynasty.co.uk/

Many happy evenings have been spent at Lee's Dynasty, the small restaurant prides itself on being 100% MSG free, the 'healthier' chinese - and I believe you can tell the difference!  the food is flavoursome and high quality, my favourites include the Fillet Steak with Creamy Black Pepper Sauce, the Smoked Chicken Szechuan Style and the Sesame Prawn Toast.

Lee's Dynasty offer a great value 'Eat as Much as You Like' menu 7 days a week; dishes are cooked to order so there's no buffet table to contend with and more importantly food is served fresh! Prices start from just £9.95 p/head at lunchtimes and £10.95 early evenings and there are loads of dishes to choose from.

Update 11/02/2013:
Lee's Dynasty no longer trade as a restaurant, they now focus on their express delivery service and until 15/02/2013 they are offering 20% off all orders plus a voucher for £5 off your next order over £20. You also receive the existing loyalty vouchers that can be saved towards free dishes (.e.g. 4 x loyalty vouchers = 1 x Sweet and Sour Chicken Cantonese Style)

Tuk Tuk Thai, Bournemouth

Tuk Tuk Thai
Thai Restaurant
250 Charminster Road, Bournemouth, BH8 9RR
http://www.tuktukthai.com

The Tuk Tuk parked up on the pavement outside makes this restaurant hard to miss. This restaurant is pretty formal, an ideal location for a corporate meal or family occassion. Staff are attentive and full of smiles, dishes are flavoursome and tasty. A business lunch is available at lunchtime, prices start from £4.95 and you can bump-up your meal with a starter or starter selection platter for an extra few pounds.

Update 11/02/2013:
Tuk Tuk became Thai Basil a while back, decor has been spruced up and now features an abundance of Thai-style wooden tables, chairs and decorations - including a large Thai boat which separates the entrance lounge and the main dining area. Dishes are still of a fair standard and curries are packed full of meat, Thai Basil also offer a lunchtime special which comprises of a basic set menu featuring a selection of starters and curry mains, served with steamed rice.

Thai's Smile, Bournemouth

Thai's Smile
Thai and Oriental Restaurant
Christchurch Road, Boscombe
Our favourite local Thai restaurant, located near Boscombe High Street.

This little gem could easily be passed un-noticed; hiding alongside a bus shelter on Christchurch Road, Thai's Smile offers authentic tasty Thai cuisine at affordable prices. Try the lunchtime set menu - for under £6 choose a starter and main that will tempt your senses. Dishes are beautifully garnished and flavours really pack a punch. I can highly recommend the satay chicken, chicken wings and spare ribs starters. Although beef dishes cannot be ordered at lunchtime there is still a wide selection of stir frys, curries and noodle dishes to choose from. The Thai Green curry is out of this world, as is the Massaman and Kari curries.

Update 11/02/2013: Thai's Smile is under new ownership, apparently regular Thai customers have noticed that curry pastes are no longer freshly cooked and this has had an impact on the depth of flavour and overall taste. Sorry to say this is no longer our favourite Thai haunt.

Koh Thai, Bournemouth

Koh Thai
Thai Tapas and Cocktail Bar
487-489 Christchurch Rd, Boscombe, Bournemouth, BH1 4AE
http://www.koh-thai.co.uk/

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to this relatively new Thai tapas restaurant located in Boscombe. Koh Thai offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, modern oriental-style decor and friendly staff. Our first visit landed on Valentines day so our food choices were limited to a 3-course set menu. My partner and I both chose the Koh Thai mixed platter which was tasty and full of flavour. Comprising of sesame prawn toast, thai chicken wing, satay chicken, mini vegetable spring roll and a sweet chilli sauce the platter was worth the 30 minute wait.
Slightly disappointed there was no beef option available as a main - and if your'e not a fan of curries then you may have been in trouble, however we both adore curry so it didn't take us long select our second course. My peanut-chicken curry was very tasty, Darren's prawn red curry was OK...
Desserts were nothing to shout about, the baileys cheesecake and tiramisu tasted pretty similar but to be honest we didn't expect out of this world desserts for £16.95 a head!

I'm sure we'll return to Koh Thai but we won't rush back - drinks are expensive, the food is not cheap and the service can be quite slow. We will continue to take advantage of the Thai Smile set lunches which offer much better value for money and 100% authentic Thai food.
